Members of the Carbondale Area High School Science and Technology Club hosted a "Blast Off to Summer" STEM Night for Carbondale Area Elementary students toward the end of the 2025-26 school year. Throughout the evening, students explored experiments and activities designed to make science, technology, engineering, and math feel approachable and fun.
The event gave younger students a chance to build, test, and question how things work. Club members guided the activities, answering questions and encouraging participants to try new ideas without worrying about getting something wrong. Organizers said the goal was to spark curiosity before summer break and show that STEM subjects can be exciting rather than intimidating.
For the high school volunteers, the night offered a chance to share what they have learned and practice leading others. Teachers involved noted that pairing older students with elementary learners creates a comfortable setting where kids feel free to experiment. The club plans to continue similar outreach efforts, hoping to turn the event into a recurring tradition that strengthens interest in science across grade levels.
