cipherX applies painless permanent tattoos with dissolving microneedle patches

A new technology from CipherX is redefining the tattoo experience by replacing traditional needles with a dissolving microneedle patch. The system allows users to apply a digital design as a small, permanent tattoo in just fifteen minutes, with no pain and no blood.

The patch works by embedding microscopic needles made of a biocompatible material that dissolves upon contact with the skin. Each needle carries a precise amount of tattoo ink, which is released into the dermis as the patch breaks down. The result is a fine, permanent line drawing that matches the original digital file. The company says the process eliminates the need for a tattoo gun, the associated vibration, and the risk of infection from reused equipment.

CipherX claims the patches can be applied by anyone, not just professional tattoo artists. The user simply presses the patch onto clean skin, waits the specified time, and peels it off. The ink remains under the skin while the needle structure disappears. The company has tested the patches for durability, confirming that the tattoos hold up against sun exposure and washing.

The technology is currently being marketed for small designs such as symbols, initials, or minimalist art. Larger tattoos are not yet supported, as the patch size is limited. CipherX plans to release the product through select clinics later this year, with a consumer version expected to follow. The company emphasizes that the process is sterile and that each patch is individually sealed.
