How can parents help kids navigate digital technology? This Lenox talk will offer guidance

With National Screen-Free Week approaching, a local expert is set to offer practical advice for families struggling to manage screen time. Dr. Jill Walsh will lead a free talk on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Duffin Theatre inside Lenox Memorial Middle High School.

The discussion aims to address one of the most pressing challenges for modern parents: how to help children navigate digital technology without banning it entirely. Dr. Walsh, a sociologist who studies how young people interact with devices, plans to move beyond simple warnings about screen time. Instead, she will focus on building healthy habits and setting boundaries that actually work in a household.

Parents often feel caught between wanting to protect their kids and the reality that technology is embedded in schoolwork and social life. The talk will offer strategies for encouraging more balance, especially as National Screen-Free Week kicks off the following day. The event is free and open to the public, giving families a chance to ask questions and share their own struggles. Organizers hope attendees leave with a clearer sense of how to guide their children toward a healthier relationship with phones, tablets, and computers.
