Skullcandy has announced two new additions to its Crusher headphone lineup, each packing distinct audio features for different listening preferences. The flagship model, the Crusher 1080 ANC, is priced at $280 and brings together adjustable sensory bass with active noise cancellation technology licensed from Bose. It also includes TrueSpatial audio processing for a more immersive soundstage.
The lower-priced Crusher 720, at $210, skips the active noise cancellation but adds THX spatial audio processing, Mimi sound personalization, and a longer battery life. Both models are wireless over-ear headphones designed to deliver the signature Crusher bass experience, which uses a built-in haptic driver to create physical vibration that matches low frequencies.
The Crusher 1080 ANC aims to compete in the premium mid-range market by combining Skullcandy's bass-forward tuning with Bose's proven QuietControl noise cancellation. This is not the first time Skullcandy has partnered with Bose on noise cancellation, but it marks a continued effort to offer high-end features without reaching the price of flagship competitors.
The Crusher 720, meanwhile, targets gamers and movie watchers who want positional audio cues through THX spatial processing. The Mimi personalization feature adjusts the sound profile based on the user's hearing sensitivity, a tool that has become more common in consumer audio over the past few years.
Both headphones are available now through Skullcandy's website and select retailers. Battery life on the Crusher 1080 ANC is rated at up to 30 hours with noise cancellation on, while the Crusher 720 extends to 40 hours on a single charge.
