ROXBURY TWP. - Roxbury students could eventually spend less time looking at screens in the classroom as school officials take another look at how Chromebooks and other technology are being used across the district.
The review comes as educators and parents nationwide continue to debate the role of digital devices in learning. While Chromebooks and similar tools have become common in classrooms, some worry that constant screen use may affect attention, social interaction, and overall student well-being.
District officials said the goal is not to remove technology but to examine whether current practices are helping students or simply adding distraction. The review will look at how often devices are used during lessons, whether younger students need as much screen access, and how teachers can balance digital tools with traditional instruction.
Community members have raised questions about homework completed on screens, the amount of time students spend on devices outside class, and whether alternatives such as paper-based work might benefit certain age groups. Officials said feedback from teachers, parents, and students will be part of the process.
Any changes would likely be phased in gradually, with attention to keeping lessons effective and preparing students for a technology-driven world while protecting their focus and health. The district expects to share findings and possible recommendations later in the school year.
